Why we build our own devices

My answer? Because I know what it's like to kneel in the middle of the road, over a manhole, with all your weight pressing on your knees, searching for that one moment — that one green LED blink — that tells you: "It's working."

Because I've personally mounted hundreds of these devices — in snow, heat, mud, and asphalt. Because I've seen what works and what fails in real-world conditions.

That's why I know how hard it is to build something that works always, anywhere. In manholes where moisture eats electronics, where signal is a whisper, and where a client, 1,800 km away, waits for a data packet that might never arrive.

The problem: a device goes silent

Just a few weeks ago — an important client, far away. We installed a new device inside a street manhole. Together with the installer, we searched for the best position. Signal wasn't ideal — but 30% had to be enough. Everything ready. Logger goes to sleep, measures, sends.

…Until one day, we get an email:

"The device stopped sending. What's going on?"

And I immediately knew which one it was. Because I was there. I installed it. I remember that manhole.

The solution: remote diagnostics, no site visit

Alert received Client reports device stopped transmitting data.
Remote diagnostics IT team checks connection history within minutes. Device had latched onto a network tower that seemed strong but was unstable.
Root cause found Statistical analysis of connection logs reveals which tower provides the most reliable connection.
Remote fix applied SIM chip remotely reconfigured to lock onto the stable tower only. No hardware replacement, no site visit.
Within 12 hours Device comes back to life, sends all missing data, and has been working perfectly ever since.
We didn't replace the device. We didn't send a team. We just understood our device — how it breathes, how it sleeps, when it panics. Because we built it.
