Field Story — When a Device Comes Back to Life, 1,800 km Away
People sometimes ask me: Why are your AQ Data Loggers different? Why not just use "standard solutions" like everyone else?
Why we build our own devices
My answer? Because I know what it's like to kneel in the middle of the road, over a manhole, with all your weight pressing on your knees, searching for that one moment — that one green LED blink — that tells you: "It's working."
Because I've personally mounted hundreds of these devices — in snow, heat, mud, and asphalt. Because I've seen what works and what fails in real-world conditions.
That's why I know how hard it is to build something that works always, anywhere. In manholes where moisture eats electronics, where signal is a whisper, and where a client, 1,800 km away, waits for a data packet that might never arrive.
The problem: a device goes silent
Just a few weeks ago — an important client, far away. We installed a new device inside a street manhole. Together with the installer, we searched for the best position. Signal wasn't ideal — but 30% had to be enough. Everything ready. Logger goes to sleep, measures, sends.
…Until one day, we get an email:
And I immediately knew which one it was. Because I was there. I installed it. I remember that manhole.
The solution: remote diagnostics, no site visit
What makes the AQ Data Logger different
5 sensor inputs
Pressure, flow, level, pulses and more from a single device.
NB-IoT & LTE/4G
Embedded multi-network SIM chip for reliable connectivity across regions.
Two-way communication
Remote reconfiguration, pump activation, valve control — no site visit needed.
Local data storage
Stores data locally and sends it once signal returns. No data loss.
5+ years battery life
Two D-size lithium batteries, even with full sensor load.
Built for the field
IP68 rated. Designed for moisture, submersion, and extreme temperatures.
But beyond all of that — the device is no longer "just a logger." It's a teammate. A silent guardian. Working in the darkest corners of infrastructure, under concrete and water, day in, day out, no breaks. And if you know how to listen — it tells you a lot.
